Katie Van Alstyne

Katie is a PhD student at the University of California, San Diego studying Experimental Psychology.

Her work primarily focuses on the mechanisms involved in hippocampus-dependent memory processes. She began her career with the Navy Marine Mammal Program as an Animal Care and Training intern in 2014; following this internship, she became an Advanced Intern and worked under Dr. Sam Ridgway. She is now a research assistant of Dr. Ridgway. Together, they have worked on a variety of projects with the Navy’s dolphins over the past five years and have published works on Cetacean neurobiology and foraging behaviors. Katie and Dr. Ridgway are currently working on research projects in the realm of Cognitive Psychology, to include a study of Cetacean reaction time.
